On September 17, in Bishkek, an expert meeting was held on the topic: \u201cHow to measure vulnerability to corruption in the telecommunications industry at the country level?\u201d with the participation of the expert community, representatives of government agencies, civil society, the media and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n
The event was organized by Public Foundation Civic Initiative of Internet Policy<\/em>\u00a0and the Promotank<\/em> consulting company.<\/p>\n The main objective of the expert meeting was the presentation and discussion of the pilot Eurasian Telecommunications Management Index<\/em>, which was first developed with the participation of an international group of experts from six countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus. The index is designed to complement important gaps in understanding the close relationship between cases of major corruption in the telecommunications industry, with a focus on the mobile services segment, and individual parameters of government and country climate in these areas. \nFor the first time, the index assesses, from an objective, quantitative point of view, the current situation in six countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan). This allows all interested parties to visually see the existing restrictions and gaps in the prevention of corruption practices in the communications industry, and to make the necessary efforts to improve the country climate.<\/p>\n
